Scarlet is a senior communications associate at the Vera Institute of Justice, where she handles media inquiries to the institute, drafts press releases, edits op-eds and other material, and oversees Vera’s social media presence.

Scarlet manages the website, blog, and social media presence for the Safety and Justice Challenge, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation’s initiative to change the way America thinks about and uses jails. Prior to joining Vera in 2014 as communications associate, she worked in academic publishing, where she acquired and managed political science research monographs. She holds a BA in English from the University of Texas at Austin.
